YouTube Orchestra Master Classes--something more than a lecture.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgtP9KA5NxM&feature=PlayList&p=AA8CE81E31603B1B&index=3
I was just looking at the YouTube Master Classes and noticed something interesting.  Discussion!  I have been to a few master classes in my time, but this is the first time I have been able to read what other people are thinking about the proceedings.
Sure, some of the comments may be picking at nits.  But many of the questions being asked about this video are legit and are getting legit answers.  Many are about things I hadn't thought of and that gets my creative thinking going...
If you are teaching master classes, this format creates something more than a lecture.  Perhaps you should consider putting your material up too!

YouTube Orchestra

http://www.minnpost.com/artsarena/2009/03/04/7113/minnesotan_marc_levine_wins_seat_in_youtube_orchestra MinnPost, the newish place to go for journalism in the Twin Cities has found a person with a Minnesota connection in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra.
I like the fact that the YouTube Symphony is happening.
I also like the rise of MinnPost as well. It feels like real news being reported.
I wish newspapers weren't in so much trouble right now.  I like newspapers.  I still subscribe.  I like them because someone with a lot at stake (printing presses, staff, etc.) went out and found interesting things to tell me.  I at least have some small assurance that the story might be true.  A problem with facts would take down their reputation and put them out of business with all that overhead on the line.  What's the expression?  A little skin in the game?
But they are getting thinner and financially they are in big trouble.  Too much overhead I guess.  MinnPost may have to do soon.  Where do you get your news?  How do you know it is the straight scoop?

Music Teacher Alert-- LSO Master Classes on YouTube

I forgot an important feature to the online YouTube auditions. There are master classes with the London Symphony Orchestra on YouTube as well. They may have been intended to help people prep for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra, but I bet you can find some things in here that will help your students in their everyday playing as well. Worth a look.

YouTube Symphony Orchestra

Have you heard about the YouTube Symphony Orchestra?
I don't know how I missed the launch in November.  I must have been working.
Anyway, it looks like the quickest way to Carnegie Hall may be to practice, practice. practice for this audition, record it and submit it to YouTube.
You need to be 14 (or older.)  My students aren't old enough, maybe yours are!
It looks like there will be help with arrangements (travel and visa) so no worries and lots of fun!
Maybe I'll have to enter.
