I am just wondering what is going to happen to libraries when books disappear.
We have a model of what can happen to a type of media when a device fills the same niche. Remember record (CD) stores? They went away when the iPod and other mp3 players took over audio.
Now we have the Kindle and iPad. What is going to happen to libraries and book stores? It doesn't take much of a futurist to come up with that answer.
I know. I love the tactile feel of a book too. But what if they aren't printed anymore? Or if they are printed it is as an art piece. Not as something to throw in your pocket and take somewhere.
The real tragedy may be the libraries. Right now they are an opportunity to learn for free. Where are the free "books" going to come from? Has anyone started an app for that?
